POST FROM CREATOR: To everyone who submitted: thank you. I hope these little peeps made you smile. Here are some final thoughts on the project, and below is a video of the project. I may do another round in the summer. And, of course, if you want to do a Smiling Statues project on your own, let me know! I can provide some tips, and you can of course have people submit their statues here, if you’d like.

This statue is just so cutesy wootsy! I picked her up, but my smiler had a little accident…She’s so small she slipped right out of my hand. But don’t worry! I gave her super-glue surgery, and now she’s doing great. I love her pink earmuffs…or are they buns? It looks like a hairstyle I gave my daughters back in the 90s! Great idea to spread some smiles, Smiler Creator!

Well I was having a beer at my favorite beach bar in RI and this little guy was completely wasted. Seems he and his sailor friends had just hit portside and were having a few of the local libations. He had had quite a trip , smelled like fish and kept muttering ” i love Cara’s voice” over and over. Didn’t know who this Cara chick was , but figure she made quite an impression . It took awhile but found out he had just learned to speak Portuguese ” I lov caras e você”. was actually I love my boyz.

There he was… sitting at the only open table I could find. Seemed polite enough. Had a note around his neck saying he was mine. So now we live together. As you can see by my collection – I am a very lucky person. So as happy as I may be to have him – I’m not surprised! Good things come to me. 🙂

Well, I jumped on a schooner bound for the port city of Narragansett RI,. I’m told there are white sand beaches, plenty of sun and a lot of field mice vacationing in the grass surrounding the dunes. It seems like it might be a great summer for me. The ride is only two days from NYC and thats all I can take. The crew smells like fish, but you can eat them – talk about a nightmare. Well got to go, I’ve have to make sure we get to the right place. I mean they’re Portugese & Spanish – you know what happened in 1492 – never quite made it to their first try at the New World. see ya

Well, I was helping some guys build when I realized that it was way to dangerous up here, plus I never really looked good in a wifebeater t-shirt.The guys were upset, but a cats got to do what a cat has to do. I always liked the beach so I found out that Rhode Island was called the Ocean State – gotta be beaches there. So, I left the city and figured I could work on my tan for the summer. We’ll talk soon.

I was sitting at a table, feeling a little upset at the douche of a teacher I have for a class. Then this fatty showed up and cheered me up. He’s adorable and I’ve named him bubby

I cant decide if those knobs on his head are ears or arms… i think arms cuz then it looks like he’s reaching up to the sky with joy!

So I was totally suffering from a case of the Monday morning blahs, because my weekend was nothing but taxes, laundry, housecleaning, studying, and essentially no time for fun or relaxation. Starting the week knowing what it held in store was a bit overwhelming. I arrived bright and early and found this little guy waiting for me. It made me so happy. He now lives on this shelf with all the other gifts people have given me over the years. Thank you!

I just got divorced and I was feeling so alone, and it was pouring rain outside

I just got divorced and I felt all alone …it was pouring rain outside, so I took some shelter in the first restaurant I could find open in the West Village..and I saw this funny smiling face looking up at me at the bar and I smiled. What could be better than a funny half-baked prince charming staring up at me with this little googy smile, and I thought….life ain’t so bad……he will live with me forever!~!!! This tiny little prince charming green little monster. Thanks for making my life happier today!!! xoxoxoo

Well I was sitting alone being depressed because I have no friends on a Saturday night, and all of a sudden I found myself a soulmate! an adorable little blue man to keep me company at night and can even cuddle with me. I find myself more at peace with the world. Better than any therapist could ever give me. Thank you for potentially saving my life.

I was walking down the street to the deli for my morning coffee, and I saw a colorful little figure on a stoop. I picked him up and he was just so cute with his pink pants. I think I’m going to take him to live at my office.

Window Ledge of Starbucks on Spring Street, NY, NY

Molly adopted this smiler on April 16, 2011 – 3:06 pm

I found my smiler on my way downtown. I stopped to get a chai at Starbucks, but there weren’t any chairs left so I sat down on the window ledge. I looked to my left, seeing something that at first appeared to be gum, but it turned out to be a funny yellow guy. He now resides happily on my desk. I just hope my cat doesn’t find him and think he’s food.
